October gardening
TOP TEN GARDEN JOBS FOR THIS MONTH
Plant spring bulbs in pots, orders and even informally in your lawns
Use winter colours such as deep purples and pinks for containers. Plant up with heathers, cyclamen, pansies, skimmia for beautiful displays
Plant evergreen shrubs and conifers now before the ground is too hard and cold
Raise pots up on pot feet to reduce water logging
Collect seeds from hardy perennials such as astrantia, delphiniums and more and sow straight away
Replace compost in containers with fresh compost ready for Winter plants
Tidy up patios and lawns by raking up and sweeping fallen leaves
Provide shelter for wildlife over the winter with log piles, compost heaps and ensure water is available.
Apply Autumn lawn feed to revive the grass after the hot summer. We recommend Westland All In One Autumn Lawn feed and moss killer.
Ensure all climbing or tall plants are well supported, tied to trellis or with canes so that they do not suffer in the Autumn and Winter winds.
